As a mother of two with one child suffering from a peanut allergy,
it was a constant struggle to find foods that did not trigger a
reaction.
Almost every pre-packaged product these days is processed on conveyor
belts and in factories that also process peanuts. As a result, I’ve
always had to make a lot of my own food to ensure that it’s safe. This
meant I’d spend all day baking and often would have to make completely
separate food for my allergic child. I felt like I was living in a
restaurant!
After owning a Thermomix for just five months I’m completely hooked. I
now only make one of everything – one dinner, one loaf of bread, one
batch of biscuits – that the whole family can enjoy, rather than having
to make ‘safe’ foods exclusively for one of my children. It’s halved my
food costs because I’m making half as much of everything. I still have
to make a lot of foods from scratch to ensure there’s no trace of
peanuts, but now it takes a quarter of the time. While my main concern
was the nuts, I’ve now also noticed how many additives I can cut out of
my children’s diets by using the Thermomix.
We’ve never been healthier and my food bill has never looked better!
